Archery Instruction

Introduction to Archery and Beginner Archery classes are offered using RECURVE BOWS. Classes are available to Juniors (10 yrs and older) and Adults. Equipment is available for both classes, However Club members must have their own equipment. Class schedule is subject to change pending demand at each level. Early registration is strongly encouraged as demand for these classes is very high.


Important notes:

- Parents are required to remain in the Range throughout the entire lesson if their Junior is 12 years of age or younger.

- First class of Introduction to Archery is mandatory

- Missed classes cannot be rescheduled

- All Archery Classes are taught in English

Archery Instruction - Introduction to Archery  *First Class Mandatory*

 

This six-week Introduction to Archery program emphasizes safety and covers the fundamentals of recurve target archery. The Introduction to Archery focus on establiching a foundation on which the new archer can begin to build their knowledge and skills.  Participants will be guided through technical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: 

  • Safety and range etiquette (first class attendance is mandatory);
  • Determine the participant's eye dominance;
  • 10 steps of the shot sequence;
  • Learning correct shooting posture;
  • Learning the correct bow hand position;
  • Learning the correct draw and anchor technique;
  • Learning how to aim; and
  • Learning how to release and get good follow-through.

All equipment for the program is provided by the RA.  Lessons are given on recurve bows. All classes are 50 minutes in length and are given in English.

Adults who have completed this course may join the Archery Club. Please wear indoor shoes and loose fitting clothing.

 

Please note: Parents of children 12 years and younger must remain in the range for the duration of the class.


*Please note: It is mandatory to attend the first class of Introduction to Archery, it covers important safety information.  Refunds and transfers will not be considered if first class is missed.

 

*Please note: Participant continuation to Beginner Archery Instruction is at the discretion of the Club Instructor.

Archery Instruction - Beginner Archery

 

Pre-requesite:  Archers who have successfully completed the Introduction to Archery course within the previous 12 months may enroll in the Beginner Archery course.

 

The Beginner Archery program is a more in-depth continuation of the Introduction to Archery program.  Emphasis will be reinforcing the basic skills introduced in the Introduction to Archery course.  Coaching will be based on the individual's needs.  Archers will also learn how to properly warm up for shooting.  Participants are encouraged to enroll multiple times to reinforce good shooting technique.  All equipment for the program is provided by the RA.  Lessons are given on recurve bows.  All classes are 50 minutes in length and are given in English.  Please wear indoor shoes and loose fitting clothing.

 

Please note: Parents of children 12 years and younger must remain in the range for the duration of the class

 

Junior archers who have completed this course may enroll in the Archery Club.

Private Coaching

 

Those Archers who have completed Beginner Archery and wish to continue training are welcome to purchase individual coaching sessions with our Certified Archery Coaches. These one-on-one sessions are 50 minutes in length and can be purchased in either single sessions or in packages of four or eight lessons.

Important notes: - Parents are required to remain in the Range throughout the entire lesson if their Junior is 12 years of age or younger.


Here are some of key details:

  • Each session is 50 minutes in length.
  • Sessions can be purchased in a single session or in packages of  four* or eight* sessions.
  • Payment is made to the RA Centre.  Sessions must be completed within 12 months of purchase.
  • Training time can be arranged at a mutually beneficial time during all open range time period.
  • Please make sure to check on the booking rules pertaining to this service.

Coaches
Janice Clark and Doreen Howes are accomplished archers.  As trained intermediate coaches through Canada’s National Coach Certification Program, Janice and Doreen can help you to train to meet your shooting goals, whether they are recreational or competitive.  As chief instructor for the RA Archery Club’s group classes and someone who is still competing at high levels, Janice is very familiar with what it takes to perfect this sport. “Coaching is a partnership between the coach and the athlete.”
