Club
You can join the RA Gun Club without needing your own personal firearm. The club owns a variety of firearms that are available for member use, under club supervision, at no extra charge. Our inventory includes a number of .22 calibre single shot target rifles as well as air rifles and a variety of .22 calibre pistols in both semi-automatic (self loading) or revolver styles. The club also owns pistols in .38 special, .40 S&W, 9 mm, .45 ACP, as well as air pistols. Eye and ear protection is provided, so the only extra cost would be for targets and ammunition used (both are available in the range). The club works closely with the Chief Firearms Officer of Ontario to facilitate Authorizations to Transport for those members with their own restricted firearms. The Canadian Firearms Safety Course is offered at the RA once per month for those needing to obtain their Firearms License (Possession and Aquisition License -PAL). See page 21 for details.
Handgun and rifle shooters must take an internal club safety course. The rifle safety course is available on Tuesday nights once a month at no charge, while the handgun safety course is taught about once a month and a fee of $50 applies. Once you have taken the required course(s) you need not take it again unless you violate a safety rule and you’re asked to repeat the course as a “refresher.”
Our indoor target shooting club caters to several shooting disciplines including - I.S.S.F (International Shooting Sports Federation), I.P.S.C. (International Practical Shooting Confederation) and N.R.A. (National Rifle Association). As well, the Handgun Section offers “slow fire” periods, traditionally scheduled on Mondays at 7:00 pm and Saturdays at 10 a.m. which are ideal for beginners to practice safely with the club firearms (exceptions may occur for Club Matches). Those interested in joining the club are invited to drop by our renovated range facility and speak to the Duty Range Officer. The Club is hosting an Open House on Sunday, January 27, 2008.
The club’s monthly activity calendar is also posted on the website and provides details of club activities, times and special events.

Junior Gun Club
The club welcomes both recreational and competitive juniors (13 to 17 years old) in its rifle section. Juniors must complete the internal club Rifle Safety course on a Tuesday night (offered twice a month) before their first Sunday visit. See calendar on website for course dates. In addition, the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and test for non-restricted firearms will be available to club juniors who wish to obtain a minors permit. Junior members can shoot .22 rifle, air rifle or air pistol and may try I.P.S.C. when shooting with a parent or guardian. Interested in joining? Visit the range during Junior Rifle hours, or during an Open House.

Firearms Licence
Certification Programs -
Possesion & Acquisition License (PAL)
(Part I of the Hunters Education Program)
Anyone over 18 years of age who intends to obtain a Firearm Licence must first pass the firearms test(s). As preparation for the legally required tests, the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) will cover the new laws concerning firearms ownership, storage, and transportation, as well as basic firearm operation and safe handling. Text books are available from the Instructor on the first day of the course. The course is also required for anyone between 12 and 18 years of age who wants to obtain their minors licence. The Non Restricted Firearms License course is also the mandatory Part I of the Hunters Education (H1) Program. Registration and payment for the non restricted course and test are required in advance at the RA’s East Desk.
Restricted firearms certification is also available on non restricted course weekends for those wishing to obtain both levels of certification. Pending sufficient enrolment, the restricted “course” AND test will be offered on Sunday, at the completion of the non restricted course, OR students who are comfortable with their knowledge can register for and take the “test only”. Registration for the restricted options can be completed on the Saturday of the non restricted course in advance at the Member Service desk. If you are uncertain which option you want, please speak to the instructor on Saturday before registering for the restricted course and/or test.

Hunters Education
Program
(Part II)
All students must complete both Part I (Firearms License Course) and Part II (Hunters Ed) and successfully complete the Hunter’s exam, to gain their H1 - Hunting certification (for firearm and bow hunting). These 2 courses can now be taken in any order, however students must show their Hunter’s Instructor a copy of their official CFSC report reflecting instructor’s name, # of hours completed and CFSC test results before they will receive the Instructors endorsement to complete their H1 Hunting certification.
The Hunters Education Program prepares students for the Hunter Exam and is offered under the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to those at least 12 years of age. Full attendance is mandatory in Parts I and II. The Hunter’s Guide textbook is required and can be purchased from your instructor on the first day of the course. The cost of the Hunter’s exam is NOT included in the price, however the opportunity to complete the exam on the second night will be available. An alternate testing time can also be arranged if preferred. Payment for exam is made to the Examiner at time of completion. The RA does not issue licenses or maintain attendance records. Questions on the exam, hunting licenses, or past certifications should be directed to the MNR at 613-258-8204.
