An agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, the OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.
“The hard work of our staff and volunteers is focused on building a sustainable and strong Association while planting the seeds of innovation to nurture and nourish the RA well into the future.”
Tosha Rhodenizer, Chief Executive Officer, RA
One of these seeds of innovation is the plan to design and build an 100-120,000 square foot “Sport for Life Centre” at our Riverside Drive campus. This new facility will offer a state of the art design, infused with programming and services reflecting the principles of Long-Term Athlete Development– (LTAD) 2.0.
In 2016, the RA applied for and received an OTF Seed Grant to be used towards research, studying the physical environment required to best deliver on the principles of LTAD 2.0 and benchmarking facilities across Canada, US and other international locations. Most importantly, this research will help develop a new innovative design based on a self-sustaining, long-term model.
Late in the Fall of 2017, the RA will unveil the new design taking into account the LTAD 2.0 principles built into Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Train to Train and Active for Life. It is our belief that designing a facility that considers these ideas and philosophy prior to building the facility will improve service delivery and create more inclusive, welcoming and productive spaces.
As this project develops and the corresponding House of Sport evolves, the RA hopes that National and Multi Sport organizations will participate with their thoughts and expertise in designing the new, revitalized space.
Thank you to the OTF for their support.
