The Club will host an OPEN HOUSE on
Sunday, SEPTEMBER 19, 2010 and Sunday, JANUARY 23, 2011.

Handgun Section - 9 am to Noon

Rifle Section - 1 pm to 4 pm
During these Open Houses, visitors can take a short safety course and then test their aim with a few shots while being directly supervised by a Club Range Officer.

Gun Club
Welcome to the RA Gun Club (RAGC), the only indoor rifle and pistol range in Ottawa open to the public. The RAGC offers men and women a friendly and safe venue for both recreational and competitive shooting sports. Both novice and long-time enthusiasts have the opportunity to improve their skills and to challenge themselves to learn a new sport.

The RAGC also provides rifle and pistol shooters the opportunity to practice a variety of different disciplines, including a number of the more popular rifle and pistol Olympic shooting events. Check out the Club's Calendar of Events (posted below) for details on shooting disciplines offered, or drop by the range on a club evening.

You do not need to own a firearm to join the RA Gun Club. The club owns a variety of firearms that are available for member use, under club supervision, at no extra charge. Our inventory includes a number of .22 LR calibre single shot target rifles, as well as air rifles, and a variety of .22 LR calibre pistols in both semi-automatic (self loading) or revolver styles. The club also owns pistols in .38 special, .357 magnum, .40 S&W, 9 mm, .45 ACP, as well as air pistols. Eye and ear protection is provided, so the only extra cost would be for targets and ammunition used (both are available in the range). The club works closely with the Chief Firearms Officer of Ontario to facilitate Authorizations to Transport Permits, for those members with their own restricted firearm.

Handgun and rifle shooters must take the internal club safety course(s), for the section(s) they will be participating in. The rifle safety course is scheduled on designated Tuesday nights for a fee of $30, while the handgun safety course is scheduled on designated Friday evenings for a fee of $50. Pre-registration is required for both safety courses. See the Club's Calendar of Events (posted below) for course dates.

In addition to the internal club safety courses, the Canadian Firearms Safety Course – CFSC (Rifles) and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course CRFSC (Pistols) are offered monthly at the RA Centre, for those needing to obtain their Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
Members without a Firearms License (PAL), can join the Club and may shoot under the direct and immediate supervision of a licensed member, during their FIRST season of membership. Since this supervision is provided by volunteers, shooting limitations may occur pending the availability of licensed members. To increase shooting opportunities, members are encouraged to get their Firearms License (PAL) as soon as possible.

Effective September 2010, ALL returning members will be required to have their Firearms License (PAL). Members who only participate in air rifle and/or air pistol shooting disciplines and have no need to use club firearms, are exempt from the Firearms License (PAL) requirement, but must still register for and complete the respective internal club safety course(s).
See below for details on Firearms License Certification Courses (CFSC and CRFSC).

Hunters Education Program
(Part II of H1 - Hunting certification program)
All students must complete both Part I (Firearms Licence Course - 10 hours) and Part II (Hunters Ed) and successfully complete the Hunter’s exam, to gain their H1 - Hunting certification (for firearm and bow hunting). These 2 courses can now be taken in any order, however students must show their Hunter’s Instructor a copy of their official CFSC report reflecting instructor’s name, # of hours completed and CFSC test results before they will receive the Instructors endorsement to complete their H1 Hunting certification.
The Hunters Education Program prepares students for the Hunter Exam and is offered under the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to those at least 12 years of age. The Hunter’s Guide textbook is required and can be purchased from your instructor on the first day of the course. Testing will be completed on the second night after completion of required course hours. FULL ATTENDANCE/completion of required course hours is MANDATORY to be eligible for testing. Those who have previously taken PART I - must show proof of CFSC course hours completed, to be eligible to take just Part II for their Hunter’s Certification. The RA does not issue licences or maintain attendance records. Questions on the exam, hunting licences, or past certifications should be directed to the MNR at 613-258-8204.
