Aikido is an efficient, practical and lawful system of self-defense. It relies only on the strength strictly necessary to subdue an attacker. Virtually an unlimited range of techniques are designed to redirect an opponent’s energy against them, while none aim to cause permanent damage. This allows the defender to use minimum energy in controlling an attacker. Students develop self-confidence and flexibility, along with physical and mental fitness. Instruction is provided by a certified black belt instructor.

Practical Self-defence Instruction
Curious about learning some self-defence basics without resorting to unnecessary violence? Do you wonder how you would react if ever confronted by someone who threatened you or put you at risk of assault? Do you know what you can and cannot do to defend yourself under the law?
Learn practical, efficient self-defence tactics that are not only respectful of the law but are also seen to be lawful, utilizing only the force necessary to safely and effectively subdue an attacker. The course curriculum is loosely based on the contemporary Japanese martial art of Aikido. It relies on the judicious use of joint locks and other means of neutralizing an attacker, along with use of openhanded strikes. Instruction is provided by a certified black belt martial arts teacher and is open to youth and adults. A strong emphasis is placed on learning in a safe, mutually cooperative environment and requires no special fitness level, previous martial arts training, or equipment beyond comfortable exercise clothing.
Prospective students are invited to attend an Information Session on
Wednesday, September 14 at 8pm or Wednesday, January 4 at 8pm. |
