Young runners build confidence at Junior Athletes Fun & Run! Junior Athletes Fun & Run is our brand-new 9-week learn-to-run program for kids ages 9-13! Athletes will meet each Saturday to work on running fundamentals, including posture, stride, and pacing – plus, weekly home missions that encourage self-efficacy and improvement. Sessions will culminate at Run Ottawa's ‘Run to Empower’ on Saturday, May 2 – a race day experience introducing young runners to strong, empowering role models. Junior Athletes Fun & Run will be coached by RA C.E.O. Ian Fraser, an avid runner for 52 years, and a National Team Triathlete in the early 1990s. Fraser believes that running teaches an important lesson in self-awareness and resilience. “Some days, running gives me answers. Most days, it just gives me honesty. That’s been enough.” Drawing on an extensive coaching background, Ian is passionate about helping Junior Athletes improve through goal-oriented training and consistency. His approach blends firsthand high-level experience with practical, athlete-centered coaching, focusing on sustainable performance and long-term success. Designed to inspire confidence and curiosity, Junior Athletes Fun & Run gives young runners the tools to grow, learn, and enjoy the process one step at a time. “I’ve learned that the finish line is optional,” reflects Fraser. “The act of running isn’t.” Sessions start February 21!
