The health and well-being of our members is our top priority. The RA Chess Club Executive have worked closely with RA Management to develop this Return-to-Play Protocol to ensure that all relevant provincial/local government and health authority recommendations are being followed.

CHESS

Ottawa’s RA Chess Club is one of the oldest, largest and most active clubs in Canada. 

TEMPORARY CLOSURE - All RA in-person programs, activities and services are temporarily suspended. 

The Province of Ontario has mandated that all indoor recreational and sports facilities (including the RA Centre) are to close until January 27 (at the earliest). Read more... 

During this closure, we will be operating with minimal staff on a reduced schedule and will do our best to respond to members as quickly as possible. Although there is no access to the building, Member Services will be available, Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm by phone at 613-733-5100 and e-mail at info@racentre.com. We apologize in advance for any delay or inconvenience. 

EXPERIENCE CHESS
Every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon from September through the end of June, members meet for both competitive and recreational play. The Club also hosts simultaneous exhibitions and lectures by some of the world’s best players as well as many weekend regional tournaments attracting top players from outside the region. 

Competitive Tournament Play - Thursdays 7:00pm - 10:30pm
The Thursday evening program consist of a series of rated tournaments most with a 90+30 time control. 

The Sunday Rapid - Sundays 1:00pm - 4:00pm
The Sunday afternoon program is more of a recreational play experience for members featuring an unrated, 5 round, 10m+5s, Swiss.

Members who choose not to play in a scheduled event may play casual Chess at any time. 

Please Note: At this time due to mandated capacity restrictions, each session will be limited to 40 individuals and will be managed on a first-come, first-serve ticketing system upon arrival.
