RA Curling Club Member appointed to the Order of Canada! Congratulations to RA Curling Club Member Allison Eddy on her appointment to the Order of Canada by Governor General Mary Simon! The appointment took place in late June – highlighting her extraordinary career researching kidney fibrosis, and for her dedication to training the next generation of pediatricians and kidney disease specialists. Her career has taken her from coast to coast; doing work for SickKids in Toronto, the British Columbia Children's Hospital, the Montréal Children’s Hospital, the University of Minnesota, and the Seattle Children's Research Institute. Although she has retired, Allison still does medical work when she can – as she is motivated by the connections made, and the impact she can have on others. “I love watching others grow and evolve,” reflected Eddy. “Some of the best calls I receive are from trainees who have gone on to find their own career success.” When asked what advice she would have for aspiring professionals in her field, Eddy gave a powerful statement: “Stay curious. Don’t accept the status quo, and don’t be afraid to take risks!” In 2022, Eddy became a member of the RA Curling Club when she signed up for the Learn-to-Curl program. Since then, she has built her skills through a variety of RA development programs and is now an avid curler who visits the RA three times a week. Eddy has nothing but praise for the Curling community at the RA. “They are an incredibly supportive group that will always motivate you to get out there. I’m especially inspired by the older players and stick curlers who still come out to play, despite not being able to get down into a hack.” Well done, Allison! We're incredibly proud to have you in the RA community. Learn more about our Curling programs and join the community today! |
