Following your Passions - Bill Brasset

If you’ve been to the RA, then chances are you’ll recognize the friendly face of Bill Brasset.

Over 25 years ago, Bill took a walk through the RA with the dream of working here. A year after submitting his application he received the phone call inviting him to be part of the team.

These days, you can find Bill behind the bar at the Fieldhouse. When Bill is off the clock, you’ll find him pursuing his passion for drone videography – oftentimes, showcasing the RA. It’s always a pleasant surprise when Bill shares his most recent RA drone video. Whether showcasing the grounds or capturing the many activities that take place within our walls, Bill creates the videos as a tribute to the community that works, plays, and engages in its 38 acres.

If you are up for a chat and Bill’s not too busy, he will happily recount stories of his travels and love of videography. If you’re really lucky, you’ll be able to catch his video compilations on the Fieldhouse screens. Brasset spends hours putting his compilations together, solely for the purpose of putting a smile on people’s faces.

Bill was raised in a small town in Nova Scotia. His passion for videography began when he was handed a Super 8 video camera at a young age. Although the camera was quite rudimentary, and his skills just developing, he would wait for weeks with anticipation until the developed film would arrive.

As he got older, he garnered an interest in cameras of all kinds – leading him down the path to discover drone videography. Now, Brasset enjoys traveling to New York State, New Hampshire, Vermont and Eastern Canada to capture stunning views in every season, with autumn being his favourite.

"The best way to improve your work is to be critical,” reflects Brasset. “Always look for little ways to improve, down to the fine details.”
