RA Curling Centre of Excellence
WHAT IS A CURLING CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE?
A Centre of Excellence is a place where excellence is fostered and supported. It’s a place where people from different disciplines – in this instance, united by their passion for curling – join together to promote and sustain excellence in the sport. A Centre of Excellence is more than a building: it’s a culture, a philosophy – one dedicated to supporting personal excellence and collective excellence.
It is a rallying point for best practices, leadership, training, expertise, and sharing of resources. The RA Centre of Excellence is a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages individuals to ask questions, share knowledge, and solve problems. By promoting and supporting excellence, we can build and sustain quality grassroots programming and world-class performances.

Curling Centre of Excellence's Multi-Year Plan
The RA is in a transformative evolution, reassessing and re-thinking every part of their operation. It was clear the RA could better serve the community by expanding curling services through the expansion of youth, wheelchair, para and stick-curling programs, complementing what is currently being offered and creating a dynamic curling environment in the National Capital Area.
The need for mid-market, stadium quality ice in Ottawa, every year, was highlighted through collaborative conversations with partners in the curling community. With this in mind, the RA strategically committed space to evolve and promote curling regionally, provincially and nationally putting curling in Ottawa on the map.
The RA Curling Centre of Excellence continues to evolve through a multi-year plan expanding programming and training opportunities, partnering with provincial and national organizations and events to leverage the creation of a stadium ice experience. Programming centres around the longstanding and successful RA Curling Club leagues, activities, and learn-to-curl programs. An expansion of wheelchair, para, and junior curling, the introduction of high-performance training camps and specialty curling clinics will support Long Term Development (LTD) for all ages and abilities and celebrate the spirit of curling excellence. In addition, by partnering with key stakeholders including CurlON, Ottawa Valley Curling Association, Curling Canada and Ottawa Tourism, the RA is working to welcome international, national and provincial level events that would otherwise not be coming to Ottawa.
This project will be completed over a number of years and evolve through a series of consultations with local, provincial, and national curling organizations and the CCE Advisory Committee comprised of RA Curling Club (RACC) members, RA staff and industry consultants. Through this stakeholder engagement, we are confident that this innovative space will inspire a sense of year-round pride and belonging and establish a new standard in inclusive and accessible sport, recreation and wellness.
PHASE 1 – Completed FALL 2021
Phase 1 consisting of the arena ice change-over to curling was completed in the Fall of 2021 and features competition-ready stadium-style ice divided into five (5) sheets.
PHASE 2 – Completed Fall 2022
Phase 2 construction was focused on the creation of gender-neutral, barrier-free washrooms, change rooms, shower areas as well as a welcoming lobby and locker area. We are proud to have created a safe, inclusive and universal environment that will benefit everyone in our community.
