More than a Game: How the RA is Championing Girls in Sport
February 3, 2026 February 4 marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of girls and women in sport and highlighting the importance of creating equitable, inclusive pathways to participation. At the RA, supporting girls and women in sport isn’t a one-day commitment – it’s embedded in year-round programming designed to welcome girls of all abilities, from beginners discovering sport for the first time to high-performance athletes pursuing competitive goals. Through initiatives like Girl-Centric Summer Camp and She Plays, an athletic development program for girls ages 8–12, the RA is creating safe, confidence-building environments where girls can develop skills, make friends, and discover the joy of movement without pressure or barriers. Programming is intentionally inclusive, ensuring girls of all skill levels feel supported and empowered to participate and grow. This commitment is reflected not only in participation numbers, but in athlete stories.
“Girls in our programming tell us that having options that support athletes at every level makes a huge difference,” says Amanda Romozzi, Director of Programming at the RA. “It shows them that there’s a place for girls in sport, no matter where you start or how far you want to go.” For the RA, investing in girls’ sport is about more than physical activity—it’s about confidence, leadership, and lifelong participation. “When girls are given positive, supportive sport experiences early on, the impact extends far beyond the court, table, or field,” says Romozzi. “Our goal is to create spaces where girls feel they belong, feel capable, and feel inspired—whether they’re trying a sport for the first time or pursuing high-performance goals.” On National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the RA is proud to celebrate the girls who play, explore, and compete in sport —and the leaders and changemakers they will become. |
