Hunters Education Ontario

The Ontario Hunter Education Course reinforces the firearms safety information contained in the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and prepares students for their H1-Hunter Certification Exam. New hunters must take the H1-Hunter Education Course and pass the exam before they can purchase their first hunting license. This course is offered under the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to those at least 12 years of age. Students have the choice between two courses, the One-Stop Hunter's Education course and Hunter's Education Only.

One-Stop Hunter's Education Course

In the One-Stop Hunter's Education course, students first complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) to be eligible to take the Ontario Hunters Education Course offered at our location. The CFSC portion of the course operates on Friday (5pm-9pm) and Saturday (8am-1pm), and the Hunter's Ed portion is on the Saturday (1-5pm) and Sunday (8am-5pm).

Hunter's Education ONLY Course

Those wishing to take the Hunter's Education Only course must have previously taken their CFSC, and show proof of completing the 10 hour CFSC course. Students will take this course on the Saturday (1-5pm) and the Sunday (8am-5pm).

The Hunter's Guide textbook is required for both the Hunter's Education Only and One-Stop Hunter's Education course and can be purchased from your instructor on the first day of the course (cash only). Full attendance of the entire course is MANDATORY to be eligible for testing, which is conducted after completion of the required hours. Questions on the exam, hunting licenses, or past certifications should be directed to the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) at 613-258-8204.
