The RA Centre is proud to host a diverse range of sports leagues year-round. We spoke with Mark Fish, Manager of Sports Leagues & Operations, about his 25 years running and managing leagues at the RA. Get to know Mark, and why he believes the RA is so special. In 1986, Fish had decided that he needed a career change. He began his RA journey as a member of Guest Services, but after 4 years, he had worked his way into the Leagues program. Fish has always had an intrinsic love for sports, and has been involved in them his whole life. At the RA, he is currently in charge of Softball, Ball Hockey, Volleyball and Sand Volleyball Leagues. When Mark first started his position, the RA offered the only softball league in the city. Although there are now more options, the RA has remained a cornerstone of league play in Ottawa – offering a place where competition, camaraderie, and community come together. RA Leagues typically boast a retention rate of 80-90% “It’s a testament to the RA leagues and the people behind them that the teams have stayed around for as long as they have,” reflects Fish. “We’ve just had a team register for their 25th straight year.” “I’ve seen generations upon generations of the same family register for the same league, says Fish. “It’s fantastic.” Looking to join in on the fun?
