Enriching a Community - High Performance Badminton "High Performance Coaching" Article Series We sat down with Mike Bitten, a tenured Badminton professional who oversees High Performance Badminton at the RA. Get to know Mike and his program below! Bitten has been playing club-level Badminton since he was 10 years old. He began touring professionally at age 17 when he moved to Europe for top-notch coaching and a higher level of tournament play. From there, Mike went on to become an Olympian – eventually representing Team Canada at the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona. Mike has since retired from professional play, and now works with the RA Centre to provide his knowledge and experience to high performance athletes in the National Capital region. The dedicated Badminton facilities and high-profile coaches help make the RA an incredibly enriching learning environment for athletes to surpass their limits and become a champion. Badminton is currently the 2nd-most participated-in sport worldwide, but does not receive as much funding as the other big-name sports in North America. This makes it more difficult for Canadian talent to succeed on an international level. Through their love for the sport, Bitten and his team are helping to further build and support a vibrant Badminton community in Ottawa.
