RA Photo Club Celebrates Diamond Anniversary
The Recreation Association of the Public Service of Canada (RA) is excited to announce the line-up for the RA Photo Club Diamond Anniversary Banquet to be held next Tuesday, Nov.18th, at the RA Centre. This 75th anniversary celebration includes forecasts of future trends in photography by multi-talented photographer-actor-musician-software specialist Mr. Mike Heffernan. Mr. Heffernan will trace developments in the art of photography radically altered by the transition from film to digital technology. Mr. Mike Giovinazzo, guru of the 1,500-member on-line Ottawa Photography Meet-up Group, will offer a humorous and insightful perspective on the current state of photography for all shutterbugs. Ms. Catherine Kelly, a dedicated RA Photo Club member since 1974, will share insights and stories about the RA Photo Club’s glorious past. The entire evening will be hosted by former club member and graphic artist Mr. Glen Cullis who will act as Master of Ceremonies.
The evening will include remarks from RA Photo Club vice-chair Gilles Vezina, RA Board of Directors Vice-President Ferdy Doreleyers and newly appointed CEO/General Manager Tosha Rhodenizer. Attendees will mingle in the Clark Hall beginning at 6 p.m. with an informal reception followed by dinner at 7 p.m. If you are a member, former member or interested in photography please drop by the Member Services Desk in the RA Centre or call 613-736-6224 for tickets.
The RA Photo Club brings together people who enjoy and want to learn more about photography. Membership is open to everyone interested in the art, with newcomers and visitors always welcome. It is the Ottawa region's biggest and best-equipped club serving the interests and needs of amateur photographers offering a self-contained studio, digital scanning and darkroom facilities which operate all year round. RA Photo Club programs offer something for everyone from beginners to seasoned veterans. Frequently, leading local and visiting photographers show their work while providing useful tips of the trade. Photography techniques and equipment are regularly demonstrated and discussed. Members are encouraged to show their own work in groups and through individual "show and tell" presentations, and in monthly competitions. Members enjoy the Fieldhouse Bar & Grill on meeting nights with a friendly ritual of after-hour refreshments, camera chat sessions and just plain socializing.
