Kick-Off RBC Sports Day in Canada at the RA Centre with the RA Sports Camp Breakfast
(Ottawa, ON) November 27, 2014 – The Recreation Association of the Public Service of Canada (commonly known as the RA) will kick off RBC Sports Day in Canada celebrations on November 29, 2014, with the RA Sports Camp Breakfast to raise money for underprivileged children to access sport opportunities. The event will begin at 8:00am in the Fieldhouse Bar & Grill located at the RA Centre offering a special RBC Sport Day in Canada Buffet and inspirational stories, as special guests share the important role sport played in their lives. Guests include Mr. David McGuinty, Member of Parliament for Ottawa South, Anton McKenzie, Ottawa REDBLACKS Linebacker, Kevin Scott, Ottawa REDBLACKS Linebacker (and Ottawa native) and Andrew D’Souza, RA member and member of Canada’s National Badminton team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
“The RA is excited to reflect on the positive role sport has played in the lives of these high performance athletes and our members,” says Tosha Rhodenizer, CEO of the RA, “We hope that guests to the RA Sports Camp Breakfast are inspired by these stories. Sport has a deep history at the RA - we compete, we excel and we share in our experiences. RBC Sport Day in Canada only reinforces these experiences and reminds us of the positive impact sport can play in our lives and the lives of our members.”
Open House at the RA will offer the public access to the RA Centre, the RA’s flagship facility located at 2451 Riverside Drive and at the Rideau Tennis Club located at 1 Donald Street. The public will have full day access to the LifeFIT Centre to train and use the fitness equipment at the RA Centre. During RBC Sports Day in Canada many of the sport clubs will be offering information sessions or open opportunities to try the sport with professional coaches available for introductions. For example, all guest fees have been waived for badminton (from 4:00pm-7:00pm), squash (1:00pm to 4:00pm) and tennis at the Rideau Tennis Club (from 12:30pm-1:30pm). The RA is also hosting the 10th Annual Cathy Kerr International Bonspiel. Everyone participating in Open House at the RA will be entered in a draw to win a four pack of tickets to the Ottawa 67s and $50 in RA bucks for dinner at the Fieldhouse Bar & Grill. The RA offers over 50 activities in 25 sport, recreation and fitness clubs and programs, plus a range of adult sport leagues in hockey, soccer, basketball, softball, ball hockey, curling and volleyball.
