Monday, February 15, 2021 - The Ontario government has announced that Ottawa is transitioning out of the shutdown and into the COVID-19 response framework in the ORANGE (control) zone. With this news, we are pleased to inform you that the RA Centre is re-opening on Wednesday, February 17 with activities, programs and services being phased-in as we are ready and able to safely welcome members back. Current Club and Activity members have received an email with the details on their specific Return-to-Play. For your convenience, these emails can also be viewed on the specific club/activity's webpage.

RA Member Services personnel will be available at the RA's East desk, Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 8:00pm to serve you in person or by phone.

Before coming to the RA Centre, please take a moment to read the following important information.

As a private, independent organization, who is supporting public health measures, and in light of recent research on the impact of wearing a mask while exercising and recommendations from health authorities to wear masks in all indoor (and outdoor) settings we are adopting the following universal masking policy effective immediately.

  • RA Members, guests and staff are required to wear a recommended, well-fitting mask or face covering at all times while at the RA including during participation in all recreational, sport, and fitness programming.

Thank you for your understanding, your patience and your compassion.
This policy amendment supersedes specific Club/Activity Return-to-Play protocols and is in place until further notice due to the exceptional circumstances of the evolving pandemic.

EAST PARKING LOT CLOSED – The West parking lot (closest to Bronson) remains available, offering ample parking for members while at the RA.

Reducing the RA’s maintenance and snow removal contracts will help control expenses and every little bit helps in our economic recovery. This decision has been informed by our reduced hours of operation and a limited number of participants. Your understanding and support are appreciated and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • FOR YOUR SAFETY – Upon leaving the RA, please avoid making a left hand turn from the RA's West entrance onto Riverside Drive westbound due to high risks associated with crossing multi-lane, higher speed vehicular traffic. Instead, follow the RA's roadway along the front of the building and use Data Centre Road to safely turn left or right to exit onto Riverside Drive or Heron Road.

Your understanding and support through these difficult times is greatly appreciated.
Please stay safe, supported and well.

February 12, 2021 - The Ontario government has announced that Ottawa is transitioning out of the shutdown and into the COVID-19 response framework in the ORANGE (control) zone.

We will be communicating what this means for the RA Centre, our programs and activities (including our re-opening date) shortly.

If there is anything we can help you with during this period of closure, we would ask that you please send an email to info@racentre.comWe will respond as quickly possible, but please note that we are operating with very minimal staff on a reduced schedule. Your patience during this time is appreciated.

Friday, February 5, 2021As members know all too well, Ontario’s current state of emergency and stay at home order have forced another extended closure of RA operations. While we are deeply committed to supporting the important work to contain the virus, this is causing our not-for-profit significant financial strain. We are sharply focused on our recovery, but full disclosure, we are up against a very relentless opponent and we are being challenged to the fullest extent.

The economic impact has been harsh. As a not-for-profit, we have very limited capability to withstand events like the Covid-19 pandemic with extended periods of closure and strict restrictions. The provincially mandated closures of the past year have cost the RA millions of dollars of much needed revenue. As we navigate this latest closure, we must carefully consider our compensation options for members with the majority of our activities now shut down for a third time. With each closure, we’ve compensated our loyal members for time missed by way of term extensions, credits and under some circumstances, refunds. Not receiving membership renewals or payments for almost another year will impact our ability to rebound.

Our relationship with you, our members, is of utmost importance and while we have some short-term hurdles, it is with the long-term in mind that we must once again ask for your support and understanding. As we are permitted to resume activities, we will make every effort to compensate members for membership time lost by extending terms or placing a credit on account where an extension is not possible. This will push our financial recovery further out, and it is for this reason that we will be reaching out to affected members to provide them the opportunity to choose to forgive the interruption and help us in our recovery. We are thankful to our members who have generously gifted their credits and we hope that we can count on your generosity and continued support once again. We know that everyone’s situation is different and that not all members will be able to help.  We will communicate more on this as we resume operations.

The RA is much more than bricks and mortar. It is a strong, vibrant community built on friendship, inclusiveness, health and wellness through the pursuit of sport and recreation. We are grateful to everyone who chooses to be part of our community. It is through your participation and membership that our mission is carried out. As we celebrate our 80th year of operation in these extraordinarily challenging times we are all reminded of the importance of friends, family and community and of the value of organizations like the RA that make our lives fuller, less socially distant and more connected.

We will communicate specific Return-to-Play details and dates as soon as provincial restrictions are lifted.

In the meantime, please stay safe, supported and well. Your willingness to help and your trust in us means more than you can imagine. We thank you for remaining a member of our Not-for-Profit organization.
We are truly “Stronger Together”.

Friday, January 22, 2021 - As you are aware, on December 23, 2020 we informed you that the RA Centre was temporarily closing on December 24 due to a Provincially mandated shutdown and would re-open on January 25, 2021.
Unfortunately since then, the Government of Ontario declared a second Provincial Emergency and introduced a Stay-at-Home Order for all of Ontario that is currently in effect. Under this Provincial Stay-at-Home Order, all recreational facilities (including the RA Centre) are mandated to remain closed until at least February 11, 2021. (Read more on the Government of Ontario website.)

We will keep RA members informed on this evolving situation and communicate our Return-to-Play as soon as possible.

Your understanding and support through these difficult times is greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, please stay safe, supported and well.

Wednesday, December 23, 2020 -  On December 21, 2020, the Province of Ontario announced a Provincewide shutdown for 28 days for all southern Ontario Public Health districts, including the Ottawa Public Health unit. This shutdown supersedes the COVID-19 Response Framework: Keeping Ontario Safe and Open. For more information on this change, please click here.

The RA had previously planned to close for the Christmas Holidays beginning December 24 at noon until December 27, 2020. However, this Provincewide shutdown now means that we will not be re-opening until January 25, 2021.

Please be assured the Board of Directors and RA Management are closely monitoring all COVID-19 announcements impacting our not-for-profit and we will keep you apprised of any changes to the Provincewide shutdown. Our goal is to safely reopen as soon as we possibly can. We ask you to exercise patience during these difficult times that are beyond our control.

Please note that the RA will be closed and unable to respond to members’ inquiries from December 24 at noon until January 4, 2021. Beginning January 4, we will be operating with minimal staff on a reduced schedule and will do our best to respond to members as quickly as possible. We apologize in advance for any delay or inconvenience.

In closing, we would like to extend our best wishes for the Holidays, and for health and happiness throughout the coming year. 2020 has been difficult and we hope that this shutdown is brief and that we are able to quickly get back to normal service levels in 2021.
Your understanding and support through these difficult times is greatly appreciated.

In the meantime, please stay safe, supported and well.
