“More than just a ski club” is the motto the RA Ski & Outdoor Club lives by.  This well organized, year-round Club offers a warm welcome to new members with events such as new member pubs and a variety of ski outings where trip leaders help skiers match up with others of similar ability. The RA Ski & Outdoor Club provides programs and services to cross country and downhill skiers as well as snowboarders and snowshoers. The SkiFIT training program which help skiers get their legs ready for the slopes and trails is a pre-season highlight. During the season join day, weekend, and weeklong ski trips to popular downhill and cross country sites. Year-round socials, and activities such as hikes and bike trips, are also the mainstay of the club. Excellent member discounts offered by local resorts and ski shops provide more than enough savings to pay for your membership.

2020-2021 Season on hold

With COVID-19 very much prevalent in our community, the RA and the RA Ski Club Executive have made the difficult decision to put the 2020-2021 Ski Club season on hold. This winter, snow will not be the biggest source of uncertainty for skiers. The changing status of the coronavirus pandemic is a big challenge. We don’t know how the situation will progress by the winter, and what sorts of ski activities will be available and advisable.

While the snow and skiing itself may be great, the ability for our Club to meet in groups will likely be very limited. With health concerns and restrictions tied to the pandemic, it is difficult to safely or cost effectively offer large group trips and outings for Club members in the upcoming season.

That means we lose the ability to purchase weeklong and/or weekend trips at a discounted group rate. It means we lose the ability to carpool to local hills/trails for day trips. It means reduced opportunities for social interaction and this aspect is truly at the heart of our Club.

Although we are taking a pause, it is our hope that we may stay connected. Our Ski Club volunteers are committed to maintaining the Club’s Facebook page (RA Ski & Outdoor Club of Ottawa) and web site (www.raski.ca), staying in touch via SkiMail, and providing quarterly newsletters.  Additionally, volunteers are actively pursuing 2020-2021 Gatineau Park passes and Club discounts from local stores, and ski hills, if offered.

Please stay safe and healthy and spend time enjoying the great outdoors through the upcoming fall and winter. We look forward to welcoming you back next year.
