Fitness Trainer/Certified Personal Trainer
​The RA Centre is looking for a dynamic trainer to work within our team of fitness specialists to provide Fitness classes, personal training, gym monitoring and fitness expertise to our members.

Key duties will include:
  • Providing personal training services to RA clients by designing safe and effective fitness programs for individuals ensuring they are adaptive to the unique needs and abilities of each client, and managing your own personal training schedule with clients including record keeping and session tracking procedures.
  • Providing instructional support to the group fitness and wellness programs by teaching classes as needed, while maintaining valid group fitness certification.
  • Understanding and executing administrative duties related to membership management including: assisting with the recruitment of new members to meet or exceed the monthly membership targets; membership sales and registration, issuing access cards; maintaining a workout card system; maintaining membership data and Par-Q responses. 
  • Developing a positive rapport with the members, and clients by providing ongoing support including guidance on safe exercise techniques; individual program consultations (one per year); responding to members concerns in the appropriate manner, instructing members on safe strength training principles and technique, and use of strength training equipment.
  • Providing orientations to members including the review of operational information; health rate monitoring; proper use of equipment; safe exercise planning,  
  • Assisting in the organization and delivery of fitness and wellness seminars, workshop, events and marketing promotions.
  • Ensuring the facility and equipment meets established safety and cleanliness standards. Ensures that facilities for wellness programs are clean, safe and set-up correctly, and that all equipment is put away at the end of program.
  • Representing LifeFIT Canada and the RA Centre in a professional manner and developing a positive rapport with the members, staff and the fitness team.
 
Requirements;
  • As a Personal trainer: a Degree, diploma or valid certification from an accredited, recognized institution and /or association in the areas of Exercise Science, Physiology or Kinesiology, or valid Personal Training Certification from an accredited institution or association.
  • As a Trainer, Certification from a recognized organization in the Field of Fitness, Health and Wellness such as the YMCA, CANFITPRO, or be in the process of completing a Health and Fitness Certification Program at a registered College or possess a Fitness Certification with a recognized Fitness Organization such as CANFITPRO.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR level C, with AED certification,
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record check; and
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, 
  • Proven ability to interact with tact and professionalism on a one-on-one basis with all RA patrons,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a team member,
  • Must possess an excellent telephone manner, verbal and written communication and organizational skills, customer service and interpersonal skills,
  • Previous experience in a Personal Trainer Role for another organization or managing your own personal business is a definite asset; and
  • Candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job.  Essential physical requirements include the ability to stand for 100% of the shift, jump, jog and lift a weight for demonstration purposes.  Must be able to work in different physical positions required to provide guidance in a class such as push, pull, reach, bend, twist, squat and crouch. Manual dexterity required to operate a laptop.
Facility Operator
The RA operates a 200,000 sq foot, 35-acre, multi-sport, recreation facility comprised of numerous sport clubs and teams, a fitness facility, curling ice surface, outdoor pool, a gun range, pickle ball, outdoor fields and many recreational programs conveniently located in the heart of Ottawa. The ideal candidate in this UNION position will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and experience in facilities maintenance including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, equipment maintenance & repairs, and building repairs. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our facility, providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with safety standards. 

Duties 
  • General building repairs and maintenance, including but not limited to basic plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, equipment maintenance and repairs, building repairs etc. 
  • Safe operation and maintenance of equipment required for Curling ice, including but not limited to installation, removal, resurfacing, painting, logos, and the proper operation of specialized equipment. 
  • Safe operation and maintenance of refrigeration system(s) including but not limited to readings, basic maintenance, checking oil and from chiller, basic troubleshooting. 
  • General custodial duties including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, cleaning washrooms and showers, sanitizing. 
  • Assist with setup/teardown of special events as required. 
  • Safe operation of equipment to properly maintain sports facilities including soccer pitches, ball diamonds, volleyball and general ground maintenance as required. 
  • Safe operation of equipment and maintenance of swimming pool and spa filtration system. Including annual opening and closing of swimming pools, chemical readings, water balancing, troubleshooting, backwash, vacuuming and other maintenance duties as required. 
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our members and users of the facilities in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Respond in a timely and safe manner to emergency situations as directed and outlined in the RA’s Safety and Emergency Procedures Plan. 

Job Requirements 
  • Possess minimum grade 12 or equivalent. 
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, mechanical and building maintenance, 
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in recreation building operation environment including but not limited to arena, curling, pool and spa, sports fields, 
  • Knowledge of basic refrigeration and HVAC systems (ORFA refrigeration and HVAC training certification an asset), 
  • NSPF Certified Pool Operator or equivalent, 
  • Valid WHMIS training, First Aid, CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator), 
  • Experience in operation of equipment including but not limited to tractor, attachments, and various small tools, 
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including evenings, some holidays and weekends to meet the demands of the business, 
  • Is required to wear CSA approved protective footwear (steel toed boots) on the job and other PPE according to safety regulations, 
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills, 
  • Ability to communicate in English essential, bilingual (English/French) an asset, 
  • Basic computer skills are an asset, 
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team setting in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, 
  • Candidates must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job: 
  • Essential physical requirements include walking 100% of time without assistance, lifting and moving items up to 40 lbs, the ability to ascend/descend ladders and work from heights, climb stairs, work in confined spaces and work in different physical positions such as pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, twisting and crouching in a safe manner. 
  • There is a potential for exposure to pool chemicals, and to outdoor weather conditions,

Facility Custodian
The RA operates a 200,000 sq foot, 35-acre, multi-sport, recreation facility comprised of numerous sport clubs and teams, a fitness facility, curling ice surface, outdoor pool, a gun range, pickle ball, outdoor fields and many recreational programs conveniently located in the heart of Ottawa. 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in our facility ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for our clients and staff, and for assisting in the set-up and tear-down of equipment for hospitality, club and sport activities. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions and to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment with minimal supervision. 

Duties:
  • Interior cleaning duties such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing services and waste removal, 
  • Washroom /changeroom supply replenishing, 
  • Floor maintenance using specific equipment and approved floor finishers including buffers, burnishers, vacuums, floor scrubbers and carpet cleaning equipment and techniques, 
  • Facility preparation for all events requiring the set-up and take-down of chairs, tables, audio-visual equipment and sports equipment ensuring that equipment is properly handled and stored, 
  • Proper use and accounting of supplies; and 
  • Inspection of sites to detect and report safety, repair and maintenance concerns. 

​Job Requirements 
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience full-time cleaning in a commercial, industrial or recreational setting. 
  • Minimum grade 10 
  • Able to work a variety of shifts including days, weekends, evenings, holidays or overnight shifts, 
  • Must be able perform physically demanding work and to meet all physical requirements of the job including walking unaided 100% of the time, lifting up to 40 lb, ascending/descending stairs and the ability to work in differing physical positions: pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, twisting, crouching and standing from a squat position. 
  • There is potential for exposure to cleaning solutions, and inside/outside weather conditions 
Guest Services Associate
The RA is always looking for dedicated service-oriented Guest Services Associates to work in a part-time capacity as part of the team that provides a friendly, courteous and professional welcome to all guests, clients and staff upon entering the building. 
Guest Associates are the front-line personnel responsible for handling guest, member & staff inquiries and complaints, arranging on-line facility and membership reservations, providing detailed information about our facility and programs, and supporting on-site staff in the delivery of RA programs and services. 
The ideal candidate 
  • will be a detail-oriented person with experience working in a recreational facility or similar fast-paced environment. 
  • will have an understanding of customer service best practices with proven interpersonal skills including excellent communication abilities (written and oral in both official languages), and a positive professional attitude especially when dealing with clients and the general public. 
  • will possess proven problem-solving skills to address guest issues or complaints promptly and with tact, 
  • will be a goal-oriented team player who can take initiative when needed to handle multiple, competing priorities within a deadline. 
  • will have a flexible schedule that includes the ability to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays – Mon to Fri open/close: 6:45am to 11:30pm; and Sat & Sun open/close: 6:45am -9:30pm. 
  • will have proficiency with various software programs including Excel, MS Word, Word Perfect programs, Adobe and Legend. 
  • will foster positive morale within the team by working and communicating effectively with all RA staff and departments. 
Qualifications 
  • High School graduate, post-secondary education in related field is desirable 
  • Previous experience in a customer service capacity is preferred 
  • A Police Check for Vulnerable Populations, level 2 that is valid within the past wo years, 
  • Current First Aid and CPRC with AED certifications are desirable. 
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job as outlined in the job description.
