Manager, Housekeeping and Security
​Purpose:     
The Manager, Housekeeping and Security is a hands-on position that leads and motivates a team tasked with ensuring consistent high standards of cleanliness and service throughout the RA Centre, directs the security functions, including physical security and safety of employees, facilities, and assets.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The manager is responsible for planning and implementing the housekeeping program, which includes defining corporate standards and checklists,
  • Responsible for managing the CCTV security system, key control and traffic control on the property as needed,
  • Receives all Accident/Incident reports, compiles data, investigates security issues, provides report on data and develops risk mitigation strategies,
  • Manages contracts with external companies for the purchase of supplies and puts in place an effective inventory control program for all supplies, including working with RA designated partners,
  • Establishes, implements and maintains security protocols for the Association including but not limited to access control of building through opening and closing procedures,
  • Defines and co-ordinates schedules for all full time and part time Housekeeping staff,
  • Ensures Housekeeping staff meets all Occupational Health and Safety requirements including updates for SDS within the building,
  • Represents the Association on the Joint Health and Safety Committee,
  • Ensures the facility and all equipment meet established safety and cleanliness standards,
  • Assists the Director, Facilities and Assets Management in the development of the Annual Operating Budget, and puts strategies in place to achieve targets, 
  • Works with all other RA service units in a professional and courteous manner,
  • Ensures compliance with the waste, recycling and compost program. Coordinates with waste contractor as required,
  • Manages event parking and traffic control,
  • Manages the schedule which includes day-time, evening and weekend coverage as required to support a 24-hour,7-day per week operation; and 
  •  Fulfills the Prime on Duty duties for the Department and organization as required.

People Leadership Responsibilities
  • Develops action plans to ensure continuous growth of departmental staff members, provide performance feedback through periodic one-on-one reviews, coaching, progressive discipline where warranted.
  • Promotes Team engagement, strategy and goal setting by providing direction, support and guidance. 
  • Applies best practices when selecting and hiring new staff.
  • Adheres to the Collective Bargaining Agreement as required. 
  • Supports administrative requirements (payroll, sick and vacation tracking, WSIB, etc.) as required.
  • Instills a culture of teamwork, collaboration and problem solving within the Housekeeping team within the broader RA staff community
 
Other Duties & Responsibilities 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director or members of the Executive team to assist the Association.
 

​Job Requirements
 
Education:
  • Diploma in Recreation Facilities Management, Property Management or equivalent is an asset.  Previous experience also taken into consideration.
 
Certifications:
  • ORFA CRFP or BOMA FMA designation and general housekeeping and security regulations are an asset.
  • Certification in Facility Housekeeping and Sanitation is an asset.
  • Obtain Certification 2 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS and keep current, is Essential.  
  • Obtain and maintain up-to-date CPR with AED and Standard First Aid certification, is Essential.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing staff in a unionized environment is Essential. 
  • Knowledge of CCTV and card access systems is Desirable.

Custodian/Housekeeping
UNION FULL-TIME POSITION

​Purpose

To provide cleaning services to all areas of the building, and the set up and tear down of banquet, club and sport activities in an efficient and productive manner while maintaining set standards. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs interior cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing services and waste removal,
  • Replenishes washroom and changeroom supplies as needed, particularly soap, paper towels and bathroom tissue,
  • Performs floor maintenance as required using specific equipment, approved floor finishes and techniques,
  • Assists with facility preparation for all events, including the set up and take down of chairs, tables, audiovisual equipment and sports equipment Ensures that equipment is properly stored.
  • Ensures proper use and accounting of supplies related to the position,
  • Requires the inspection of sites to detect safety, repair and maintenance concerns; and the reporting of concerns to the appropriate personnel,
  • Provides courteous and professional service to our clients, members and users of the RA Centre,
  • Works in collaboration and communicates with all other RA departments in a professional and courteous manner; and
  • Performs other related duties as required to meet the business needs of the department and Association.

Education
  • Minimum Grade 10
 
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience full-time cleaning in a commercial, industrial or recreational setting.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overnight to meet the demands of the business.

Facility Operator
UNION FULL-TIME POSITION
​
Purpose

To provide a variety of support services to the Manager, Facilities to support other departments, members and guests and ensure effective execution of property operations and maintenance including, but not limited to, curling, pickleball, sport fields, gun range, pool, and general building maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • General building repairs and maintenance, including but not limited to basic plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, equipment maintenance and repairs, building repairs etc.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of equipment required for Curling ice, including but not limited to installation, removal, resurfacing, painting, logos, and the proper operation of specialized equipment.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of refrigeration system(s) including but not limited to readings, basic maintenance, checking oil and from chiller, basic troubleshooting.
  • General custodial duties including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, cleaning washrooms and showers, sanitizing.
  • Assist with setup/teardown of special events as required.
  • Safe operation of equipment to properly maintain sports facilities including soccer pitches, ball diamonds, volleyball and general ground maintenance as required.
  • Safe operation of equipment and maintenance of swimming pool and spa filtration system. Including annual opening and closing of swimming pools, chemical readings, water balancing, troubleshooting, backwash, vacuuming and other maintenance duties as required.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our members and users of the facilities in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Perform other related duties in support of business operations as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Have a minimum of grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, mechanical and building maintenance.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in recreation building operation environment including arena, curling, pool and spa, sports fields, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic refrigeration and HVAC systems (ORFA refrigeration and HVAC training certification an asset)
  • NSPF Certified Pool Operator or equivalent.
  • Completion of WHMIS training, First Aid, CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
  • Experience in operation of equipment – tractor, attachments, small tools, etc.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Proven public relations and communication skills.  
  • Ability to communicate in English essential, bilingual (English/French) an asset.
  • Basic computer skills an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team setting in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job. Essential physical requirements include: Constant periods of walking a spacious facility, lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs, the ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, be able work from heights, work in confined spaces and to work in different physical positions: pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, twisting and crouching in a safe manner. There is a potential for exposure to pool chemicals, and to outdoor weather conditions.
Hospitality Teammate/Server (part Time)
This diverse position will provide the highest level of food and beverage service to members and guests. Hospitality Teammates will provide bar, table and counter service in the banquet/meeting spaces, the Fieldhouse Restaurant and in the RA Café. Teammates will strive towards the ultimate goal of ensuring each member and guest has a positive, memorable experience and looks forward to repeat visits.
Overall Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Provide the best possible service, wherever you are assigned (Fieldhouse, Banquets and Café).
  • Be knowledgeable of the RA, it’s facilities and services.
  • Be able to direct clients to the proper facilities or services.
  • Be knowledgeable of food and beverage offerings in all locations.
  • Be knowledge of common food allergies.
  • Wear the appropriate and clean RA uniform for the assigned location.
  • Have a neat and tidy appearance.
  • Complete side duties for each division as assigned.
  • Follow time keeping protocols. Be punctual with regular and consistent attendance.
  • Adhere to all liquor license regulations.
  • Complete the inventory sheets when responsible for bar service.
  • Perform other related duties as required. 
Banquets / Meetings (General)
  • Be able to follow event orders and work independently on smaller events.
  • Follow the Supervisor’s directions, when working with a Supervisor.
  • Report any requested changes to the Supervisor or Coordinator on duty.
  • At end of your shift, give the Event Orders to the server responsible for the clean up or return Event Orders to the Hospitality Services Office at the completion of the event          
Fieldhouse Bar & Grill (General)
  • Provide menus, specials. Upsell whenever possible.
  • Inform guests or promotions and contests.
  • Keep your section clean, including removing empty glass, and dishes from tables.
  • Punch in all orders in a timely fashion. Do not serve any beverages before punching them in.
  • Work cooperatively with other teammates to support total guest satisfaction; help prepare tables, help walk food and drinks
Café RA
  • Provide front-line customer service and sales of all food items and beverages, including the operation of all relevant equipment in the Café.
  • Be able to prepare, warm, and present menu items according to the RA recipes
  • Complete shift task lists or duties as assigned by the Manager.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the Café, workstations and adjoining space.
Job Requirements: 
  • Minimum one year’s experience in foodservice industry.
  • Be Smart Serve knowledgeable and carry Smart Serve certification while on duty. Must obtain certification upon hiring.
  • Safe Food Handling knowledgeable.
  • Follow Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Availability for shift work throughout the week, including weekends.
  • A complete understanding of written and oral English. Bilingualism (especially French) is an asset.
  • Competency working in a team environment and comfortable working independently.
  • Sales and service focused. Friendly and happy personality.
  • Be able to work together in a team environment and carry out duties independently when needed.
  • The ability to manage multiple tables and large groups.
  • Ability to comfortably balance and carry both large oval trays of food and smaller round trays for beverage service.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45lbs (average case of Beer)
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 4 hours
  • Stamina and a Healthy Lifestyle.

​Hospitality Supervisor (Part Time)
Scope of Work
The Supervisor, Hospitality Sales & Service provides shift supervision and support to serving staff, in all hospitality areas; this may include shifts in the Fieldhouse Restaurant, the Sundeck Patio, the Central Lounge, Café RA and special events, as scheduled.  This non-unionized position will collaborate with Hospitality Management and RA Senior Executive Team.
​
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures hospitality service standards are maintained.
  • Ensures staff follows proper procedures for cleaning and food safety.
  • Assists with planning and executing special events.
  • Communicates regularly with kitchen staff during shift to ensure fast efficient processing
  • Ensures staff completes all on-shift duties
  • Ensures all cash handling and inventory procedures are adhered to.
  • Resolves minor concerns while on duty using tact and judgement.
  • Reports any member and customer concerns to management when necessary
  • Ensure all liquor license regulations are strictly adhered to.
  • Other duties as assigned by their supervisor, senior management and/or the RA Senior Team.

People Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide direction to staff so as to provide fast, efficient customer service
  • Quickly become familiar with and comply with key elements of the Collection Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Employment Standard Act (ESA) and RA employee policies
  • Bring forward any personnel and/or union concerns to direct supervisor or management for action.
  • Verify staff complement is present and ready to serve prior to shift. Monitors staffing levels on shift.
  • Ensure each staff is in proper uniform, and that personal hygiene standards are respected, and that staff personal effects are stored.
  • Provides shift report to direct supervisor or management using template provide
  • Observe (and assist when needed) staff interaction with guests, to ensure proper protocols are followed
  • Ensures staff uses proper time keeping methods.

Job Requirements:
  • A minimum of one-year experience in a licensed restaurant.
  • Flexibility to be able to work day, evening, and weekend shifts as required
  • Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid Certificates in Food Safety, WHMIS, First Aid / CPR and Smart Serve.
  • Smart Serve Certificate must be carried while on duty.
  • Able to lift and/or carry up to 20 kg.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking

Education:
  • High school diploma.
  • A diploma or certificate in Hotel/Restaurant management or related discipline or experience in the field considered an asset.

Membership Sales & Services Representative (Part Time)
​Purpose
Under the guidance of the Coordinator, Membership Sales and Service the incumbent will be responsible for positively representing the RA at all times and providing excellent customer service and support to its members and guests at all times. Position includes performing a variety of transactions including registrations, maintaining member records, and cash handling procedures and providing information on programs, membership, and schedules.

​Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Coordinator Membership Sales and Service the Representative will:
  • Welcome all individuals, handle incoming calls & follow up calls in a friendly manner using prescribed greeting.
  • Develop and maintain friendly relationships with members and create a positive and inclusive environment for all.
  • Provide informative and energetic membership tours to prospective members customizing the experience by matching their unique needs, interest and goals with RA Clubs and Services.
  • Upsell services to clients and members that match their interests and needs
  • Assist and maintain Member Retention Plans
  • Monitor and control access to the facility.
  • Maintain the court reservation system and the guest management systems using established procedures.
  • Possess skills to sell a membership & enroll the person using established procedures.
  • Complete program registrations in person and over the phone using established procedures.
  • Balance receipts at end of each shift.
  • Provide detailed, accurate & timely information on schedules, fees, programs & facilities
  • Accurately complete required paperwork including, but not limited to, applications, time cards & incident reports
  • Know & enforce established policies; ensure that members are aware of policies & procedures.
  • Open/Close facilities according to established procedures and adhere to safety guidelines and practices.
  • Assist with implementing member special events and special activities.
  • Communicate to Coordinator any areas that raise concern from members or constituents.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend New Employee Orientation within 60 days of employment

  • Obtain current CPR with AED and First Aid certification within first 90 days and keep current

Certified Personal Trainer/Fitness Instructor
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Manager, LifeFIT Canada, the duties include but are not limited to:
  • Representing the RA and LifeFIT Canada in a professional manner.
  • Understanding the administrative duties behind membership management such as: assisting with the recruitment of new members to endeavor to meet or exceed the monthly targets for membership; membership sales and registration, issuing access cards; maintaining a workout card system; maintaining membership data and Par-Q responses, submitting files to the RA Member Services Staff.
  • Providing orientations to members which includes: review operational information; health rate monitoring; proper use of equipment; safe exercise planning; and ongoing support to members which includes: guidance on exercise techniques; individual program consultations (one per year); responding to members concerns in the appropriate manner;
  • Ongoing education of members to encourage them to follow the Fitness Centre’s code of etiquette.
  • Providing support to group fitness classes and wellness programs and maintaining group fitness certification (where appropriate);
  • Ensuring the facility and equipment meets the safety and cleanliness standards established for the facility. Ensuring that the facilities for wellness programs are set-up correctly and that all equipment is put away at the end of program.
  • Being fully aware of the location of all first aid supplies, able to operate equipment; and able to respond to a medical emergency following procedures posted in the facility and be informed of all security and emergency procedures within the facility and LifeFIT Canada protocol. Maintain both CPR and FA certification as directed by the RA and by the fitness governing and certification organizations.
  • Developing a positive rapport with the members, colleagues and supervisor to ensure the level of service provided meets or exceeds LifeFIT Canada’s expectations.
  • Promoting the RA and LifeFIT Canada programs and services that are available to all members of the RA Centre.
  • Assisting in the organization and delivery fitness and wellness seminars, marketing promotions, workshops and events;
  • Attending LifeFIT Canada meetings and special events as requested.
  • Undertaking any other duty as assigned by the Manager of LifeFIT Canada.
