Calling all Pickleballers!
We are looking for volunteer Pickleball Ambassadors to join our team.

Volunteer Ambassadors ensure that our All Level Play times run smoothly and courts are assigned equitably. With a full membership base, the shifts will be fast paced and require you to know the game, make decisions and champion fair play. In return for your support and hard work, we will offer you some guaranteed weekly court time for your own play. Please contact Jill Laidlaw for more information.

What is All Level Play?
The All Level Play structure allows players with varying skill levels (novice, intermediate, advanced) to all play together in a fun, social atmosphere. Games are created by using a rotational paddle rack where players upon completion of their game, return their paddles to the paddle rack, where a volunteer ambassador will shuffle paddles around to create a new foursome.
  • Daily drop-in fee applies
  • Daily booking is required on PlayRA (up to 3 days in advance)
  • Open to persons 18 years or older
  • Games played to 12 minutes
  • Paddle rack system in place for game creation
  • Please bring your own equipment (paddle, ball and eyewear)
  • Volunteer Ambassador run
Play your Visit
  • When you arrive at the courts, please check in with one of our Ambassadors
  • They will assign you a foursome and a court
  • To ensure equitable playing time, all games will be played to 12 minutes (signalled by a whistle)
  • At that time, all foursomes will exit the courts and place their paddles in the paddle rack and the next group of players will go on
  • Our ambassadors will juggle paddles within the rack as needed to ensure you play games with a variety of people
  • Please note that you can arrive/leave at any time within the ALP

  • No formal coaching can be done on a court rental
Leagues - NEW FOR WINTER 2023
Leagues are open to everyone. An All Level Play Membership is not a pre-requisite to be able to register for leagues.

The RA offers a wide range of League play for a variety of skill levels. Each division within the league is intended to promote healthy competition in a fun and social atmosphere. A mixture of formats will be used to make each week interesting, including:
  • Randomly assigned partners/opponents each game (of either gender)
  • A set partner for all or a portion of the evening
  • Mixed doubles
  • Mens' and womens' doubles
Within each division, you can also expect groupings by skill level, to provide players the best "at level" pickleball experience. Your results and play will be observed, and you can move "up or down" within your division.  As well, if your results and play indicate you may not be in the correct division, you may be invited to change divisions to ensure you are playing with the players suitable to your skill level.

Each of the 3 divisions will use BenchApp, an easy-to-use website and app, to verify whether league participants are interested in playing that particular week. This app and website are very user friendly and is already used by the Ottawa Pickleball Association and many individual pickleball players in the Ottawa region.

Each division can accommodate a maximum of 35 players each night. If more players are interested than available spots for that particular week, the first 35 players to confirm their interest get to play.

Coaching Team
Don Cogan
dcogan@racentre.com
  • Certified Pickleball Instructor
Don is a certified IPTPA coach who has been enjoying pickleball for many years. He was introduced to the game while vacationing in Florida and became passionate about the sport immediately.

When asked why he enjoys pickleball so much, Don replies that meeting new people and making new friends are the biggest upsides of the game. You’re having FUN working out and there’s always room to improve and play at different levels once you master the strategy and skills that come with the game.

Don realized early on that teaching the game to entry level and intermediate players of all ages was very rewarding. He looks forward to having the opportunity to work with members to help them improve their skills and strategy on the court.
Cody Barbeau

  • PCI, NCCP I and Head Coach of the National Competitive Training League.

Cody is proud to be the new Pickleball Coach at the RA Centre for Advanced players and currently competes as a Selkirk Sport Sponsored Player. He is also a Pickleball Coach at the Orléans Tennis Club and is a multiple gold medallist in local and regional events and a national medalist.

As a result, Cody has the pleasure of coaching, drilling and playing with top Pickleball players across Canada.

He also brings 5 years of tennis coaching and 25 years of golf professional experience. His athletic achievements include a provincial championship in tennis, golf, as well as a gold medal in golf at the World Masters Games.
Cody’s passion for coaching is equally as high as his passion for competing. His goal is to work with players to break barriers and improve their skills, so they achieve all their goals.
