Coaching TeamIan woodhead
Ian’s love of squash began at 15, and he began training full time at 18. At his highest level, he was training, and competing against world-class players in the North of England, but he later discovered he had a passion for coaching. He has worked for England Squash coaching some of England’s top junior players followed by a string of positions at high profile clubs in the UK. Following this, Ian took a position up at Ottawa Athletic Club, growing the program to become the largest and most competitive in Ottawa and Northern Ontario, coaching a handful of Gold level players in the process. Most recently Ian moved to Vancouver to take charge of one of the top four private members clubs in the country, growing the program from 30 juniors to 70 in two years. During this time, he coached three beginner players to the top 10 in the province for their respective ages. On top of this, Ian produced one provincial champion and two juniors that were at a level that allowed them to not only compete in the Canadian Junior open, but also the US Junior Open, competing against the top Egyptian juniors in the world. "I'm very happy to be back in Ottawa and having agreed to run our programs out of the RA. What we are planning to do at Squash Gloucester is run an inclusive junior and adult program for people of all ages that allows everyone to play the sport that we love. Our aim is to also add a competitive segment to our programs that enables us to produce some of the finest squash players not only in the region or province, but in the country" |
